Every May, a friend and I plan a lunch and plant shopping extravaganza. We both love a colorful garden with blooms galore and since she has some experience with English gardens, she is my go-to girl on all things green and in need of water and sun.
It may have been the bleak and long winter that made this years plant shopping trip seem more dire and necessary than in years past. The time chatting and sharing a burger and fries at a favorite restaurant while planning our garden and sharing the bits of news and noteworthy workings of each family is a refreshing tradition. We love having our gardens in tip-top shape before Mother's Day.
Last weekend, my Hubs and two sons mulched the front and back yards in a few hours. My window boxes and planters were cleaned and prepped for some new blooms. Weekends where all seven of us are together working on house or yard projects has always filled me to the brim. Usually ice cream is involved.
My backyard: a private haven for reading, relaxing and entertaining. In a few weeks those trees in the ravine will be so full, the houses will not be visible.
I even added some green to my home and joined the succulent bandwagon with some thrifted glass. Yep, it makes me happy too!
Our Friends + Flowers day was a wonderful start to May. This tradition blesses me to bits; I get to chat with a dear friend over lunch and work on beautifying our outdoor spaces. Really, it's about community and love and all things worthy of time and effort.
