Mini Granny Square Tech Case {Tutorial}

With the return of the colder months, my heart and fingers have turned to a favorite hobby--crochet. This week, I have transformed a pile of mini granny squares into a sweet & colorful Tech Case.

I used my very favorite cotton yarn from Hobby Lobby {I Love This Cotton} in a variety of colors. Such cheerful color combos!

An Ipad mini fits perfectly in this granny case. My kindle fits into the case as well with a little wiggle room; I could easily fit a small notepad in the case with my kindle.

Tutorial:

  1. Make a two round mini granny square.
  2. Connect the mini squares in a three row pattern using a single crochet stitch.
  3. Continue connecting rows of three until 24 granny squares are in rows.
  4. Match up 2 rows of granny squares and connect to begin making a longer column of grannys.

     5. Continue in this manner until all 24 granny squares are connected in a long piece of cotton goodness.
     6. Weave in the ends.
     7. Using a single crochet stitch, close up the case around perimeter with a chosen color of cotton yarn making a flap and one row of squares overlapping at the top. {Photos above with iPad or Kindle in case show where the fold and flap should be crocheted shut}.
     8. Add scallop edging around two sides of case. ( 1 sc, *skip 2 sp, 5 dc in third stitch, 1 sc, repeat from *).

When I got to the top of the flap, I single crocheted 12 stitches to make the loop for the button and reconnected with a slip stitch and continued the single crochet around the edge. I finally got to use my SugarBeans wood button I purchased from Pick Your Plum a while ago.

I'm sure there will be more mini granny square projects in my future; these cute squares give off a vintage vibe and the color combinations just make me giddy. This tech case could also work as a sweet pouch for small gifts this Christmas season; maybe even a stationary case for your writing friends. Whatever the purpose, it sure is a little piece of 'pretty'.

Happy Sunday!

UPDATE:: I have added a listing in my Etsy Shop for one of these tech cases. Enjoy! xo
