Men's Shirt Apron {make it}

While the Hubs and I were in Holland, Michigan, we stumbled upon an amazing pie shop// Cranes. Every evening we would walk the quaint streets, window shop and grab a slice of the BEST blueberry pie around. And each evening we were waited upon by the sweetest college-aged gals wearing the cutest aprons made by the owner of the shop out of up-cycled men's dress shirts. On our last evening, I met the owner and she shared some tips on how to make these fun food-catchers.

I love how easy these come together.

I made a quick run to Goodwill and found a couple of men's shirts that were in good condition; size XL works best. Then I began to cut off the back and arms, leaving the hem seam from the shirt intact {I found this tutorial on how to cut the arms and back off of the shirt}.

Next, the cuff was cut off of one of the sleeves to make a pocket. From the back material, I cut two 4 inch strips to make ties and two 2 1/2 inch strips to make the bottom ruffle.

The ruffle adds a bit of girly charm to the manly shirt:)

Couldn't resist making a pink one.

For the ties, I folded the 4 inch strip in half the long way, ironed, folded in half again, ironed and sewed the edges closed.
Yesterday, I gave one as a hostess gift. Tomorrow, I'm giving one away as a house-warming gift; and in a couple of weeks, a friends gets one as an art smock {I included some fun bits in the pocket}. Today I swung by Goodwill and got a few more dress shirts; I'm addicted. I have a thing for aprons.
