My mom is glue in our family. She's holds things together tightly with a dash of humor and flair. Nothing she does is run-of-the-mill or ordinary. She loves to make an entrance, make friends and completely disregard people's personal space. She is full of stories and will share them with anyone within hearing distance. The funny thing is she does all this in a way that most people are cool with her just being her.
Last week, she left for a three week stay with her family in Germany; I miss her terribly. She sent us this photo of her brother, Manfred, sister-in-law, Agnes and 65 roses to celebrate her 65th birthday. Yeah, we are so off her radar right now. She has plenty of love, food and friends to keep her occupied, but right now her four foot, eleven frame is leaving a big shadow.
A couple of years ago my oldest daughter and I joined my mom for a couple weeks in Germany. It was the trip of a lifetime; we met up with old friends and family, ate entirely too much bread and explored new and beautiful places. So, I know what my mom has in store over the next few weeks. Her smile will not diminish, she will drink her weight in coffee, see old school friends and spend countless hours reminiscing with childhood friends in her native tongue. She is filled, topped-off and over-flowing. This is a piece of heaven to her and I am thrilled she gets this wonderful opportunity. SO, until she comes home, I must attempt to hold this place together. What she has pieced together with love and determination will remain.
She's our glue. She's also hilarious, loving, compassionate and hard-working. She's my Mama and I miss her!
