Some more craft ideas using scraps

I LOVE sewing.
I also love saving $$, creating new from old, and repurposing items for decorating or gift-giving. So when I have scraps of lovely material, I hate throwing it out! That's why these creative uses of scraps make me oh, so happy inside.

My most favorite is from the talented See Kate Sew. She has a tutorial on a beautiful silhouette of the USA using only fabric scraps.  I'm in love with all things state and silhouette related, so this made me run for the supplies needed and begin. You can find the map tutorial here.  Pictured is the map Bean and I made that hangs boldly in our master bedroom. My husband is drawn to it as well and it gets him imagining places we need to visit based on the fabric color {Love the way my man thinks!}

I used unbleached muslin for the background. The frame was a $3 Goodwill find that I spray painted.

Can you see the little boy running through Ohio?
The map turned out great, and my eyes kept drifting to a favorite state of mine- California; it's where I grew up, went to school, made sweet friends and married my adorable hubs. On my wall were 2 outdated floral canvases. Old, and not really my style anymore, but hard to dump because it meant I would have to replace with them with something {read: more $$}. So, I covered the canvases with the same unbleached muslin and enlarged my home state and current state. So thrilled with the way they turned out!

Still haven't decided what to put in the white frames from TJ Maxx. The patterned paper in the frames work for now.

California, Indiana and the USA map make this wall a favorite!

There was a pillow in the living room that was in need of a new cover. I used the same materials and techniques from the map to make this thrifty pillow cover with an envelope closure on the back {easy to take pillow form out & wash cover}.

The monogrammed burlap and felt pillow in the background is another cost-cutting use of scraps.
