*Day 8: Cookie Baking & Decorating {Christmas for Teens}

I usually save this activity for a weekend. Sugar cookies. So yummy, but time-consuming and messy; and I can tell you from experience, the messes don't get smaller as the children get older. But because this is still a family favorite, I have many eager hands willing to clean up in exchange for a couple of cookies.

Ikea had these marvelous woodland animal cookie cutters// we swooned! We skipped the snowman, Santa, bell and gingerbread shapes in favor of some fun critters that my kids have a fascination with (this season anyway):  fox, moose, bear and hedgie!

These two take the decorating part pretty seriously.

The decorating is where I get to see my Teens unique style shine. One teen took pains to add two colors in a swirl pattern on the snails shell; another had to be color specific- a bear cannot be green; and another heaped on the frosting and sugar decorations in utter abandon, totally annihilating any sense that an animal shape was beneath the mess.

Almost too pretty to eat!

Christmas just wouldn't be the same without a good sugar cookie and the little messes that accompany them.

Happy Baking!
