Yummy {vintage} lace

A few weeks ago a friend {thanks Marcia!} at church passed this lovely vintage hat box filled with vintage lace on to me. She had been storing up lace from her mother and grandmother in hopes of finding something creative to make with it, but time and circumstances lead her to pass the box of beauties on to me. Yippee!!

The lace was truly vintage: old, musty and in need of a good washing. So, this weekend, my daughter and I washed, ironed, untangled and sorted the lace onto cards.

I cut up comic book cards to make the small lace holders.

For the larger and longer pieces of lace, one full card was used for wrapping and storing.

After I used the hand wash cycle to clean the lace, I had a jumble of lace intertwined and connected into one big ball. My daughter helped me to untangle the mess. Then I ironed every piece and wound the lace onto the cards.

Even the hat box is adorable!
I used some vintage lace to make my Burlap + Lace utensil holders. Now, I need some more ideas to share this bounty. Any ideas??
